Frequently Asked Questions

How do I properly care for my candle?

ON FIRST BURN When lighting your candle for the first time, burn for at least 2 to 3 hours to allow the top of the wax to melt completely. This will prevent tunneling in the future!

TRIM YOUR WICK Always trim your wick to 3mm-5mm before each use (use wick trimmer or nail clipper).

NOW IS THE TIME FOR A NEW ONE: Never burn a candle all the way through; stop using it when there is only 1.5 cm of wax left. Secondly, never use a candle for longer than 4 hours at a time.

What do I do if my hanji wick keeps flaming out?

If the hanjin wick isn't holding its flame, it may be too long or too short. To ensure a good burn, you might need to adjust your wick length. If your wick is to long, we recommend you cut it with either a wick trimmer or nail clipper. However if your wick is to short, melt the top of the candle with a heat gun for a short duration and pour out the wax to give your wick more breathing room.

If you do not own a heat gun, we do not recommend using a hair dryer as it can cause a mess, instead scrape out a bit of wax from the top and then burn for a few minutes to even out the wax. To guarantee a clean burn, you should frequently trim the wicks on your candles. A length of 3 to 5 mm is what we advise.

How can I prevent my candle from tunneling?

Your candle can tunnel if you extinguish the flame before its optimal burn time, leaving a literal ‘tunnel’ around the outside. This leftover wax means your candle won’t achieve its maximum burn potential and can become difficult to light later on. We never want that to happen, so please ensure you are burning your candle until the entire top layer is melted. This way it will set evenly with tunneling.

I've tunneled my candle! What can i do now?

Fix a candle that has started to tunnel with aluminum foil.

To ensure that the flame has enough oxygen to burn, punch a hole in the center that is at least an inch wide. Burn the candle for a sufficient amount of time to melt the wax to the container's edge. The aluminum foil helps in retaining heat long enough to melt the wax on its whole surface.

Help! My candle looks like it's sweating?!

If you see beads or small oil build up on the top of your candles, your candle might be sweating. Sweating is notorious in 100% soy wax candles and is a sign that the product is all natural. Soy wax is sensitive to extreme temperature changes, causing the natural oils to separate from the wax and leaving pools of oil on top. Sweating will not affect the quality of your candle at all. You can simply wipe off the excess oil with a tissue. To avoid this in the future, make sure to keep your candles away from drafts, direct sunlight and room that vary in temperature.
